About Louis Bornstein

My primary exposure to alternative medicine occurred when my father was undergoing treatment for cancer in 1981. My family experimented with dietary changes and the mind body connection associated with John Cabot Zinn at UMass medical where my father was a patient.

In my scientific studies at UMass, Amherst I majored in Water Geology and minored in Forestry, Plants & Soils, and Botany. What I really loved was ethnobotany. The study of plants in their environment and how they can be used to heal people. I have completed many years of study in this field. In addition to three and half years of acupuncture school at The Academy of Five Element Acupuncture, I completed extensive studies in Western Herbalism and a three year Chinese Herbal Apprenticeship program focused predominantly on female health from puberty to pregnancy, as well as infertility, menopuase, osteoporosis and cancer with Sharon Weizenbaum. I have also completed an Advanced Herbal studies with Thea Elijah focusing on stress and the mind.

My acupuncture treatments integrate a strong mind-body connection using the principles of Anusara yoga - Attitude, Alignment, Action. Patients are often given exercises to continue between treatments.

Being alive is exhilarating.

All aspects of this work are very profound. That a few needles or an herbal formula can evoke so much change/momentum in a patient's life is incredible.

Doctors have said to me,"You are so lucky. In your work you can really help people".
And often very quickly. I have seen people avoid Carpal Tunnel and rotator cuff surgeries, overcome debilitating depression, loose weight, rebound quickly from strokes and Bells Palsy, overcome infertility and many other scenarios.

Living in pain is exhausting, being alive is exhilarating.
